EVAR Short-Stay Discharge

Discharge planning is an integral step in care pathways - a topic broached sometimes before a patient leaves the operating room or interventional suite. Endovascular aneurysm repair is now the predominant intervention for abdominal aortic aneurysms in the United States. Skillful practitioners achieve less than 1% 30-day mortality and less than 1% in-hospital complication rates, suggesting that properly-selected patients may be appropriate for same-day discharge. This calculator was derived from more than 25,000 patients in the Vascular Quality Initiative EVAR dataset and externally validated with 14,000 patients in the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program dataset, aiming to aid interventionalists in identifying such patients.
